Neonatal Nurse Specialist
Support newborn care, families and follow-up after neonatal discharge.
About the role
Use specialist neonatal nursing experience to support families and coordinate appropriate follow-up. Digital work focuses on education, discharge support and concerns suitable for remote review, alongside the infant’s treating neonatal or paediatric team.
What you’ll do
- Provide family-centred education and support after neonatal discharge.
- Review feeding, growth and care concerns within your specialist competence and agreed care plan.
- Recognise signs of deterioration and arrange prompt escalation to treating teams or urgent services.
- Coordinate follow-up with neonatal, paediatric, primary care and community services.
- Support parents and carers with practical care guidance and clear safety-netting advice.
- Maintain accurate specialist nursing records and contribute to quality improvement.
What you’ll bring
- Recognised nursing qualification and current nursing registration.
- Relevant neonatal specialist training or qualification and substantial neonatal clinical experience.
- Competence in neonatal assessment, family education and escalation.
- Understanding of safeguarding and the limitations of remote newborn assessment.
- Clear, compassionate communication and secure digital documentation skills.
Helpful additional experience
- Experience in neonatal discharge planning or community follow-up.
- Experience supporting feeding and coordinating multidisciplinary neonatal care.
Working arrangements

The country of practice, remote or in-person requirements, hours, engagement type, start date and remuneration will be discussed during recruitment and confirmed before appointment.
